But on the ultimate lap in the very last corner Leon got passed by fellow Honda rider Ryuichi Kiyonari, leaving the man from Derbyshire to settle with a sixth place as final result. In race two Leon got off from his 10th place taking a steady seventh. As he was advancing further through the 21 lap race trying to regain his race pace after being pushed off the track numerous times by Jonathan Rea, Leon found it difficult catching up to the front runners as he had already lost to much gateway in the process. Finally bringing home an eight place for himself and team had to be the final result at the Italian track today.
Leon Haslam - Superbike - Race 1 - 6th, Race 2 - 8th:
"Yes, it was hard work out there today. The set-up was better in race two but we went with the wrong tyre for the second race, my decision because the temperature had gone up. Plus Johnny (Rea) put me across the grass about four times, and that cost us a lot of time. If we had worked together we could have got up to the back of the group that actually got to the podium. Eighth in race two was not the best of results, but sixth on race one was better. We have had a few issues this weekend, but we have overcome them and we were running as fast as the leaders in the mid-part of one race. All-in-all, we improved over the weekend."
Johan Stigefelt - Team Manager:
"Leon did a good job today and we finished in sixth in race one and eighth in race two. I don’t think he could have done a lot better with the settings we had. We must be happy with everything. We came here testing so we thought we could have had better, but the team had to deal with a lot of new things this weekend, and we are only half the size from before. Everybody in this team deserves every good result we get.
